Veterans Day

Veterans Day Activities

I love November, the reflection, the 30 days of Thankfulness, Veterans Day and some extra days off of school lol.

I decided to create a Veterans Day unit this year for my son’s class. He is in second grade this year and his teacher is so awesome! I did differentiate many of the items in this set so it can be used for Kinders-2nd.

I feel Veterans Day is such a great opportunity for us to teach our little ones about the sacrifices that have been made and continue to be made each and every day on our behalf.

This set has a set of 4 QR codes. A read aloud story, a brief history video and 2 patriotic song videos.  You can add them to your reading centers for November. You can even hook your laptop up to the Smart Board and play them for the class.  All you need to do is click on the QR code next to the picture and it will load as long as your district hasn’t blocked the internet.

There is a Vocabulary Poster that you can use to go over words associated with Veterans. After you go over the words you can do a class graphing activity. The students choose the word they would use to describe a Veteran.  There are 2 different options with this activity. The first is you can put the word cards up on the wall and then give each student a name tag (included) and they can vote for their word. They just put their name under their choice. The second option is to allow each student to ask 5 girls and 5 boys what they would choose. There is a graph for both activities.

How would you describe a Veteran graphing activity

This set also includes a Write the Room activity with student response sheets.  If you don’t have a lot of room you can hole punch them at the top corner and hang them on a binder ring!
